How to Match Your Sprkly to Your Hair Color

One of the sweet little secrets of a Shalem is the peek of inner fabric that frames your face — which means your Sprkly and your coloring get to play together. Now, hear me out: these are suggestions, not rules. You do you, always. But if you've ever stood in front of your mitpachot wondering which one makes you look like you got eight hours of sleep (a lie we love), here's my cheat sheet by hair color.

Blondini

Soft, cool, and a little dreamy. Blondes glow in gentle tones — blush, sky blue, sage, buttery neutrals — but don't be afraid of a little contrast so you don't wash out. A print with some depth keeps things from going too pale-on-pale.

Brunette

Brunettes can carry drama, so lean in. Rich jewel tones, warm browns, and a good greige toile look expensive against dark hair. (When I styled the Frenchie Shalem with a greige toile de Jouy and a brunette cotton inside, my client's eyes popped like WOAH. Not an accident.)

Black hair

High contrast is your superpower. Crisp black-and-white toile, bold brights, and anything with a clean graphic pop looks striking. Silver and jewel tones sing here too. Basically: go bold, you've earned it.

Chestnut & Ginger (my gingies!)

Warm copper and chestnut hair loves earthy, warm-toned company: rust, terracotta, olive, mustard. And here's the color-wheel trick — teal and deep green sit opposite copper, so they make ginger hair absolutely luminous. Sprkly Shalem for all my gingies.

Grey & Silver

Silver hair is sophisticated and a little regal, so treat it that way. Cool blues, plum, charcoal, and silvery toiles look elegant and intentional. Don't hide it — frame it.

A few more thoughts.

First: because many Sprklys are reversible, one covering gives you two shots at the perfect match.

Second: If you are just starting out with Hair covering, using a fabric color that is similar to your hair color can be an easy transition visually. Basically, when you look in the mirror, I want you to see yourself, not just a headscarf.

Third: matching is lovely, but contrast is fun too — sometimes the covering that fights your hair color a little is the one that makes you look most alive. Trust your gut. You know which spoon is the coffee spoon; you know which mitpachat is right.
